Max Vasmer reconstructs the original ethnonym as "lêdìninъ", deriving it from the Slavic word for
"fallow, wasteland", which is cognate to English "land". In this context, lêdìninъ means "a settler of
barren lands", referring to the lands vacated by some earlier population, either the Vandals or the
Goths.

A Lechitic tribe recorded to have inhabited the ill-defined area in East Lesser Poland and Red
Ruthenia between the 7th and 11th centuries
Original Record of:
Believed to be descended from 12 century BC Enetoi (Homer)
6th century A.D., when they took part in the destruction of the Roman Empire and got onto the pages
of the Byzantine chronicles.
7th century the extent and borders of Lendians territories are still not clearly known, it is very likely
that most of it was similar to the area of Ruthenian Voivodeship of the Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth.
Based on Constantine's report, it appears likely that the Lendians occupied the historical region of
Chervona Rus, centeredd around Przemyœl.This conclusion is at variance with the Primary Chronicle
which implies that the region was settled by the White Croats. In order to remove the perceived
discrepancy, some Polish historians proposed alternative readings of the text in question, which would
move the location of the White Croats considerably to the east, for instance, to the Vorskla River
basin.

By the end of the century, Adam of Bremen, another important German chronicler, wrote in his major
opus Gesta Hammaburgensis Ecclesiae Pontificum(Deeds of Bishops of the Hamburg Church), that in
the pagan city of Rethra, a god Radegast was worshiped, and to him, the bishop of Mecklenburg
Johannes Skotus (John the Scott) was sacrificed on 10 November of 1066, during a Wendish pagan
rebellion against Christianity. Adam's work was continued by another German priest, Helmold, who in
the latter half of the 12th century in his Chronica Slavorum wrote of Radegast as a god of the
Wendish tribe of Rethra or Raiduri.

W. Slavic citadel-temple of the war-god Svantovit, built in the 9th – 10th century AD and destroyed in
1168/69 by Christian Danes when they stormed the island of Rügen in the southwestern Baltic.
According to 1. Saxo Grammaticus, it was a log structure with red roof, surrounded by a yard and
fence, carved and painted with symbols. The inner sanctum contained a statue of Svantovit with four
heads and throats facing in opposite directions. Excavations in 1921 proved the temple's actual
existence.
